Councilman Maurice “Mo” Hill


Leadership and service are the two words that best define Mo Hill. A 1965 graduate of Lakewood High School – where he was later inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame, Mo earned six varsity letters in football, baseball and wrestling, along with being selected to the National Honor Society in his senior year. After high school, Mo moved on to Rutgers University and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biological Sciences, while also participating in football and rugby He then entered the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), ultimately graduating with honors, and volunteered for the Naval Reserve Dental Program as an Ensign.

That began a sterling military and dental career that started when he attended Officer Indoctrination School at the Naval Education and Training Center in Rhode Island and later assigned to Naval Dental Clinic, Naval Education and Training Command as an Assistant Dental Officer. He was eventually transferred to Branch Dental Clinic, Naval Air Station in Lakehurst.

A longtime member of the Naval Reserve, Mo was activated for Operational Desert Storm in January 1991 and assigned to Naval Hospital, Philadelphia. He retired with the rank of Rear Admiral (Upper Half) and after almost 35 years of Naval service, earning countless awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.

Mo is a member of the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Society, the Monmouth-Ocean Dental Society and the Brick Lions Club where he served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. He is an active member of Saint Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, where he serves as a Eucharistic Minister. Mo has lived in Toms River for 28 years. He maintains a general dentistry practice in Brick, New Jersey. He has been married for over 35 years to Roseann Kerrigan and they have 3 adult daughters, three grandsons, and a granddaughter.
