1st Ward Councilwoman
Councilwoman Maria Maruca has called Ocean County home since 1980. She is a former small business owner and community volunteer who has served the residents of new Jersey in many distinguished capacities.
Councilwoman Maruca was first elected to the Toms River Council in 2004 and has a long record of public service. She is the former Executive Director of the Seaside Heights Business Improvement District (2000-2012) and has been an active member of the Ocean County Tourism Advisory Council since 1992. Additionally, Councilwoman Maruca has served on the Toms River Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society, Ocean of Love, Jersey Shore Region Tourism, New Jersey Tourism Industry Association and the National Alliance for Mental Health.
An advocate for her constituents, Councilwoman Maruca was part of the Dover Township Name Change Committee in 2006, and supported changing the Township's name from the Township of Dover to the Township of Toms River on November 14, 2006. Councilwoman Maruca is also a liaison to the Township's 250th Anniversary Commission. As a member of the Township Council, Maria represents Ward 1, which includes the Township's barrier island sections, East Dover, Bay Shore, Gilford Park, the Fischer Boulevard corridor, and sections of Silverton.
